However, the urgency of care differs from patient to patient, and it&#8217;s important to help practitioners quickly identify patients requiring the most immediate care. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-274744d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"274744d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tArtificial Intelligence could potentially provide a solution to this problem, not only by optimizing and accelerating clinical procedures, but also by identifying incidental findings: for the first time, a team of researchers1 has used a very large multi-site clinical dataset to train a convolutional neural network to recognize abnormalities in brain MRI images. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d9a6a25 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d9a6a25\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>3 datasets (for training, validation and testing) from over 9,000 clinical brain MRI scans acquired at various institutions<\/li>\n<li>Images annotated by 4 radiologists according to 10 categories: &#8220;probably normal&#8221;, &#8220;hemorrhage&#8221;, &#8220;inflammation&#8221;,<\/li>\n<li>Images (FLAIR sequences) categorized as &#8220;probably normal&#8221; or &#8220;probably abnormal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42cccb3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42cccb3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The model performs well in distinguishing &#8220;probably normal&#8221; from &#8220;probably abnormal&#8221; images <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capacity for generalization to be improved: model tested on a validation set acquired at a different institution from the training set.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Challenge: variability of pathologies and images <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Future developments: ability to accurately classify &#8220;probably abnormal&#8221; images into different categories <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9750e53 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9750e53\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>A very promising work, to be continued! <\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e75b27e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e75b27e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gauriau <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">et al.
